When you have coronary heart disease, these arteries can become clogged with a fatty substance called plaque. This restricts the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. Left untreated, this can lead to chest pain, called angina, and ultimately a heart attack. |

As plaque builds up on artery walls over time, they can become “hard” and less flexible. This is why coronary heart disease is sometimes also called “hardening of the arteries.” The medical name for this condition is atherosclerosis.
Schedule an appointment to talk with your doctor about whether you are at risk for coronary heart disease. |
