Symptoms of Heart Disease

Chest Pain, Angina

The most common symptom of heart disease is chest pain, called angina. Angina can feel like tightness, fullness, heaviness or pressure in the chest. It can occur as a stand-alone symptom, or occur as part of a cluster of symptoms.

Other symptoms that can occur with coronary heart disease include:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain (angina) that can be felt in the jaw, arm or back
  • Irregular heart beats, skipped beats or a "flip-flop" feeling in your chest (palpitations)
  • A faster heartbeat
  • Weakness or dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Sweating

Take these heart disease symptoms seriously and talk to your doctor, especially if you have one or more risk factors. These factors can include high blood pressure, being overweight, smoking, a lack of exercise, or a family history of heart disease.
